For many in the dance world – performers, teachers, audience members – the industry has never looked more different. Children are learning their barre work with a dining room chair (avoiding the cat), theatres and rehearsal spaces have been vacant for months, and the lack of preparation for the virtual world meant that dance came to a stand-still in 2020.
A Round-up of What We Missed in 2020:
- Move It!
March saw the cancellation of ‘The biggest dance event in the World’.
- IDTA National Scholarships and Awards
May saw the cancellation of the IDTA’s nominated scholarships and awards.
- Miss Dance and Dance Master
June saw the cancellation of the IDTA’s competition to find the nation’s best dancers, rescheduled again this year unfortunately the event has again been postponed to 2022.
Following the UK Government’s announcement of the Covid-19 Roadmap commencing restrictions releasing by June 2021, there is some hope for events taking place this year:
- Heats Auditions for Miss Dance and Dance Master 2022
The IDTA seem hopeful for auditions to go ahead in the latter part of this year.
- Can You Dance?
Tickets are on sale for this summer’s ‘biggest touring dance convention.’
